When you are going around Giza, be sure to run by the Sphinx/ Abou El Houl. Be sure to have a guide who can explain what the history behind the sphinx. Be watchful of the peddlers and people who give "free information". Your mantra should be "there's nothing free in Egypt"

From the age of 8 when I read a newspaper article on king tut I had a dream of visiting Egypt. Most of the sights I have visited have lived up to the romantic visions I had and the Sphinx did not disappoint. My only issue is that you look south at the sphinx with the pyramids behind it imagining... More

We made a fairly early start, enabling us to view the Pyramid and the Sphynx in peace. It was lovely to be able to stand quietly, taking it all in, breathing in the history without the crush of other tourists and the annoyance of persistent vendors. We visited again in the evening to see the light and sound show which... More

You cannot visit the Pyramids without visiting the Sphinx. Try to visit in the morning as the afternoon sun can interfere with taking photos. you can take photos with the Pyramids in the background.

The Sphinx is an iconic statue that stands guard over the pyramids at Giza. It is an amazing structure, even missing part of the nose. Again, the age of the sphinx is amazing. The only dislike I had was the abundance of vendors trying to sell you everything. They were pushy, but under the circumstances, with virtually no tourism to... More

After watching the Sphinx on many documentaries and seeing many images, seeing it in person was amazing, the scale and location are a must see, add to your bucket list if it isn't already there.

The short walk down to the Sphinx sets the context for the pyramids. It is from here that you you can see antiquity in its entirety: the soul in the face with the bodily strength of a lion for protection and it all begins to make sense when you see it in it's real setting. It is here that I... More

An enormous structure, absolutely amazing- must see attraction. Did not see toilet facilities, we were on a coach trip so perhaps these are available. Plenty of young children trying to sell cheap tack- beware of pick pockets as it is extremely busy.

We hired a local guide with Memphis Tours to visit Memphis and the Giza Plateau. She did a good job at fending off all the hawkers. Then for whatever reason she sat down over by the sound and light show seating and we had to walk over to the Sphinx without her. She may have needed time to do her... More
