Beautiful spot for relaxing but not much to do. I like staying on Teopan Island, but make sure you get to the ferry before sunset since they stop running in the evenings.

Almost all the land around the lake is owned by wealthy Salvadoreans who use their houses on weekends only, making it impossible to walk anywhere around it. Beautiful and clean though thanks to their septic systems and plumbing.

This is a must! Its a lake located over the cráter of a volcano, is just amazing! Go eat somewhere there and rent a motorboat or stay there in an hotel. Had a wonderful time swimming on the lake!

Nice view, and lots of restaraunts. Good place to stop while visiting other sites. Not worth a trip from San Salvador just for this location alone.

This lake is a volcano crater, which is super cool. Also cool is the temperature of the lake...literally cool and pleasant. Lake Coatepeque is a very special place. It is peaceful and beautiful. There are some neat restaurants on one part of the lake. You can rent seadoos. Make the effort and go!

Lake Coatapeque is a super special place. Central America has some rather impressive volcanic crater lakes, and Coatepeque is my favorite. It's large enough to create privacy between houses, but small enough to feel intimate. The water isn't too cold, and it's crystal clear--perfect for swimming. There is a little private island in the middle of the lake that you... More

I really enjoyed my visit here. There were delicious restaurants serving cheap seafood (that was yummy!). The drive in was a bit rough as we followed a slower car.
