The Jama Masjid is huge and awe inspiring. Preferably carry a bag in which to carry your footwear, so you can exit from the other gate which opens directly towards the tombs at the back.

This place is right in the middle of the busy old city surrounded by loud bazaars. But you can hardly hear any noise once inside. The architectural beauty works on your brain. You get so impressed and engrossed that you stop feeling the outside world. I've been here twice and all i do is sit near the water pond and... More

The mosque is an incredibly attractive building that blends Islamic principles with Hindi design and carving. The Sultanate moques in Ahmedabad stretch the Islamic rule on iconography and give free reign to amazing stylistic Hindu designs in carved stonework. Very friendly Mosque - welcomes visitors outside of prayer times and no requests for baksheesh!

Jama Masjid is quite large, impressive, and beautiful. Sitting in the middle of the old city and noisy crowded bazaars, it's a remarkably quiet and peaceful place. I visited a few of the other mosques in Ahmedabad, and none compares to the Jama Masjid. Just behind it are some tombs that are very interesting as well. If you're in Ahmedabad,... More

See pictures and details on my blog: http://keepsakewala.blogspot.in/2012/12/a-mosque-and-morning-walk.html On a pleasant morning we took a Heritage Walk to the Jama Masjid standing tall and grand at the center of the old Ahmedabad city. Built with yellow sandstone in 1400s by Ahmed Shah, it has a huge courtyard and a water tank in the center for praying and rituals. The prayer... More

The architecture is very unique with hindu temple like carvings in the mosque. Best to go early in the morning. We went there as part of the heritage walk organized by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation

The Jama Masjid is beautiful in its serenity and expanse. The courtyard is perfect to sit, revere whatever you believe in, and the best part is that it is right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the Old city. After a full day of site seeing, we reached the masjid and had a peaceful time sitting, talking... More
