It's a sight you shouldn't miss even if you have to get up at 6.00 in the morning. Just grab a tea - that early, you might have to wake up the staff but they will oblige for sure. Head over to the cast iron bench at the edge of the tea estate and enjoy the sunrise.

We happened to visit Emerald dam and were quite fascinated. In the afternoon there was no crowd and the area was very quite. The scene from the dam is really awesome. Had a wonderful time.

Dont try to get down to the lake - its quite deep and can be quite dangerous. There are no locals around for help.

I celebrated my 60th birthday on the shores of this stunning and serene lake. It is a beautiful spot though the drive up to it is long- but then getting to an isolated and beautiful spot in India always is! Of course, you have to be meticulous about not littering this lovely area. However, just as we were leaving, some... More

Excellent place to stop for 2 to 3 hours packing some Pidzas from Dominoes and reading a book or listening to music in the peace and solitude of this place

Emerald village is approx. 30km from Ooty via Ithalar and the Good Shepherd School. It is a small settlement comprising tea estates, carrot and potato fields and a housing colony of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board that owns the Emerald lake and dam. The stunningly beautiful high altitude Emerald lake at 1995m is surrounded by peaks of the Nilgiri mountain... More
