Impressively constructed red brick walled town with moat and vertical wall on outside and sloping brick ramp onto walls. lots of trees growing in walls through bricks. Lots of plaques detailing each wall or old building but limited information explaining history at the sites
For the history buff. Also, being on the river, nice breezes and some fish restaurants. Some good but expensive textiles in the market outside the museum. The museum has never yet been open when I've been there. I look foward to seeing it one day.
awesome sight to see. Chiang Rai, has so much history and is so rich with it...and I enjoyed getting to see a part of what Thailand used to be.
The walls are about 1 mile square around three sides of the city down to the Mekong. They are only standing in some places, including the gate on the road as you enter from Chiang Rai. Very nice city in Chiang Rai Province.
Yes see this, also go to the museum. The wharf on the Mekong in the city centre is worth a look as well!
Not enough to curb your appetite if you are expecting something like Ayuttahya. Can miss if you are on a tight schedule.
Low key, nobody, and so imposing. Other places would be Unesco site for much less.
although some people may find it boring to look at some old ruins. the history in itself is interesting, 700 years old.
An old wall in Chiang Saen still can see when you drive or walk pass the way from Chiang Saen to Maechan distric, Chiang Rai.
