Amazing street - you have to call into the Union shop to see all the imported goods and of course to get one of the shopping bags. Just wish I had more money! Lovely bakery's and little bars tucked away make it a fabulous walk.
Nice little walk, restaurants get quite busy at night. The MotoMachi Union grocery store is a great option if you want to pick up something to eat and take it to a nearby park or down by the water. Good place to window shop.
Motomachi shopping street and the surrounding area is one of my favorite areas to go out for a stroll. While there's many people, it just doesn't seem as bustling as other areas in Yokohama. Many of the stores are expensive foreign brands so I don't do much in the way of shopping but the wide streets (that are closed on...

Motomachi shopping strip is perfect for a leisurely stroll and well worth exploring whether you are looking for the latest puffer jacket (seems every Japanese person owns one to keep the winter chills at bay!) or wanting to combine some window shopping with a meal or coffee. The street is full of boutiques and some craft shops and numerous cafes....

This was a nice shopping area. Service at Japanese stores is so amazing. We had no problem grabbing a taxi to go back to the hotel with our packages. We also found plenty of workers in the stores that spoke some english, which was very helpful.
A nice day out to walk through the shopping strip with lots of western shops to browse through. They also have different parades and activities through the year if you can find out about them as they arent advertised well (St Patricks Day, Christmas, etc). Doesnt change much so can become tireome very quickly - but you can add it...

Imagine a tall mall building falling down and that is Motomachi Shopping Street. It is a waste of your precious time in Yokohama unless you are a Japanese shopaholic from Shikoku. The food is better at Landmark Plaza, where you can have the same experience without walking outside.
Especially liked Union supermarket, Excelsior cafe, Pompadour bakery and the ambience, especially in the evening. Piped music everywhere. Christmas carols in December!
With the opening of the Port of Yokohama in the late 1850's, what was once a little village (Motomura) suddenly a Western-style shopping area and the central congregating point for the foreign community. As you walk down this chic, brick-lined avenue, you are walking down the same street that the foreign business people, church community, educators, industrialists and statesmen walked...
