We were advised to visit the mosque but found when we arrived nobody seemed to want to help us and although the stallholders outside told us we could go in, nobody seemed to want to allow us access. We were made to feel very unwelcome and the only place in Johor where some refused to even speak to us. You can't go in either.

Dear Traveller, if you are traveling overseas, its good to visit the religious or spiritual places to get a better understanding of the religio-cultural aspect of the place. If you happen to visit Johor Bahru, do stop by Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque and see how the Muslims pray and appreciate the architecture of the mosque by the Father of Modern... More

Closed to non Muslims. The outside is worth seeing but may not be worth the journey.

Big signs proclaiming "Non-muslims not allowed inside". Maybe they should publish that little piece of information in their tourist guides, rather than saying you "may" have to wear a robe.

Its an interesting place but getting a good photo is very difficult from the back parking lot (front facing the water is the interesting side). If you aren't Muslim, you can't go in but you can walk around the grounds and get a few photos. There are normally a few hawkers selling some paintings, etc.

2.5 km away from Johor Bahru city center, the mosque located just beside the zoo. Built by Sultan Abu Bakar, the mosque has strong English Victoria architecture. Beside the architecture, the mosque is as ordinary as any other mosque. If you wish to visit the mosque, you can visit zoo and the Royal Museum in one goal, as all of... More
