We did the park as part of a tour seeing the mountain and although interesting found it to be over to quick and didn't really go far, feel you could enjoy and see more on your own.

We did a 500 mtr steep walk to reach the wooden walking plank & rope sided bridges strung over the rainforest. It was worth the effort and upon return dipped our tired feet into the hot springs. It is a long day as it takes 3 hours each way from Kota Kinabalu by mini bus. I think to go up...

There are a few different walks you can do so take your time and allow anew days to do different things. If you chose to do a walk one day, realise that you probably won't get to the hot springs/ canopy walk as this closes at 5 pm and takes about 45 mins to one hour to get there from...

KK park is about 2h30mins from KK town, one must drive carefully as there is mist on and off the whole journey, especially during rainy day, so it could be very blur in front of you when you drive through the misty weather. if you're a nature lover, you sure like the place! mountains view is fantastice all the way...

The Kinabalu National Park is quite remote from the downtown of KK. Public transportation is not convenient and the schedule of the bus is also unclear. There is a distance between the bus stop and the entrance of the park. Better take a taxi or join the local tour.
The weather at Mount Kinabalu is as unpredictable as in tropical...

Took public transportation to the park from KK as we find the day tours quite expensive (160++ RM per person). Just take a shared taxi or mini bas (to Renau) from Padang Merdeka (Merdeka field near Jalan Gaya) for 20RM a person. To get back, just flag down any mini bas going back to KK from the park's entrance.
At 2 hours plus each way, a day trip up to Mt Kinabalu heritage park is a full day's sightseeing that's worth the price of a guided tour. It's impractical to make it a DIY tour (using local buses); rent a motorbike/car if you don't like groups. The Poring Hot Springs provide a worthwhile side-trip (with the Canopy Walk an...

Kinabalu National Park (UNESCO Heritage Site) is quite far from downtown Kota Kinabalu, about 2.5 hours on a coach. You reach a height of about 1,400m, so the air is very cool.
We took a day trip there, had lunch at the Sutera Harbour resort, and took an easy walk around a trail as well as the Botanical Gardens.
Overall,...

great view of the mountain. wide open. fewer trails (other than the hike up the mountain) than I would like.
We rented a car for 2 days to travel from Kota Kinabalu to the National Park. The drive up the mountains was a lot of fun. The rental of the car was very reasonable for the 2 days. It was well worth the trip. We arrived for the 11 am nature walk in the park with a naturalist. We saw...
