We took the Sapsan Train from St. Petersburg to Moscow in 4 and 1/2 hours. It makes a couple of stops, but they are quick. It maxes out at 200KPH. It is quite smooth and they offer food and beverage service, but it is expensive so I would recommend bringing your own.

Quick, easy, punctual, comfortable. It's air conditioned and there is a bar cart wheeling through time to time - everything to keep you happy for the 3-4 hr journey.

We were on a Riviera Holidays package and the Sapsan train was the method of transfer from Moscow to St P. I had been looking forward to the journey as a chance to see the Russian countryside, on what was otherwise a purely city break holiday. However our seats were a disaster - as we were not beside a window... More

We traveled from Moscow to St Petersburg in this train during our visit to Russia in May 2013. Train is as good as any other European trains. Seats were comfortable and specious. Journey was very scenic.

If you cannot afford the 1st class ticket but still want to stay online try to get your seat in the cab next to the 1st class one ;)

Can't really fault anything about the train ride itself - the service left and arrived on time, the ride was pretty smooth, the seats comfortable and the toilets clean. What was slightly disappointing was the railway station in Moscow - one doesn't expect to have to walk down a muddy alleyway to reach the pride of Russian Railways! But hopefully... More

We travel between St. Petersburg and Moscow via the Sapsan--a four-hour journey. I tried to take some photos but the speed at 180 mph made for a blurry landscape. Comfortable, and food and drink are available. This is a much better ride than the Red Express and you get to travel during the day. Our hotel, the Crowne Plaza in... More

A friend and I did the Grand Express overnight one way to St Petersburg and then the Sapsan on the way back to Moscow. It's timely, clean, and surprisingly (and happily) non-smoking. I scoured the sites and figured out that the 2nd class ticket for this leg would be adequate. It was spacious enough and I didn't think the much... More

Great way to transit between St Petes and Moscow! Only took 4 hours. Very quiet, clean, spacious with lots of room for our luggage. Clean lavatory. I would recommend it. We only ordered tea on train from the attendant. Didn't try the food.

Its a nice train - I went first class or Business class. Seats are adequate, the legroom is not brilliant - the Eurostar between London & Paris is much more comfortable in standard class. The distance between Moscow & St Petersburg is no more than 750Km and the trip took 3 hours 50 mins - which is an average of... More
