It's a relatively quiet park on the west shore of the Dianchi lake, but in general I'd advise people to stay away from kunming until all the constructions are done. The construction of the metro has resulted in crazy roads with digging everywhere. Bus stops are confusing with all the temporary stops over the place. Dust and dirt everywhere. A... More

A beautiful place with fabulous views. Best to get to the top via the cable car (1 across the lake and one to the top) from the city side of Dianchi lake, by the King Dragon temple (there is also a nice park by the lake). Driving up is difficult as there are no signs. Easy to spend 2-3 hours... More

Kunming is a very busy, and in my eyes not a very attractive city. But there are many nice places to visit very close by. The nicest, in my opinion, is Xishan. We spent a whole day there. We took a taxi to the foot of the cable car and ascended half way up the mountain. From the cable car... More

If you have some free time while visiting Kunming - go to Xi Shan. It took us over an hour to get there by bus (you have to transfer, but it cost only 3 yuan in total). You can take a bus from the bottom of the mountain to, let's say, a middle of the mountain (where is the entrance).... More

Easy to reach from Kunming city (just 20 min by taxi from downtown). Many nice temples but nothing special or different from other similar places in China. The surrounding area and the pathway connecting the temples, as well as the ride with the cable car, offer you a good opportunity to take nice pictures and enjoy the views.

This was an amazing day - the highlight of my stay in Kunming, and we stumbled upon this on accident! My friend was taking me around Kunming and the sights were cool, but we were just overwhelmed with people. Around 4:30pm we took a taxi to the minority nationality village, and as the taxi drive drove by Dian Chi, we... More

Western Hill (Xi Shan) is located about 10 miles southwest of Kunming city centre and is right on the Dianchi lake; where the lake narrows down to an end. From the car parking at the foothill, there's a tourist bus service which takes up to some elevation to a mid station. From there, one can take a ride on smaller... More

This March, we visited Western Hills( Xishan Forest Park) and it was one of the most memorable experience in my life. We took a carblecar to the mountain, looking down, Dianchi sparcled under our feet. It felt wonderful. We visited several remarkable temples such as Huating Temple, Taihua Temple, Nier'er Tomb, Sanqing Pavilion and Dragon Gate. Among them,Dragon Gate is... More

On the way up we took the green bus that takes from the parking lot to the gate and from there, a cable car up. The 5-year old loved it as usual. The staff estimated that had we chosen to walk instead of the bus, it would have taken us 15 minutes. The bus ride took 15 minutes so the... More

I had an opportunity to visit this mountain during the 'Tomb Sweeping Holiday', for that specific purpose; Sweep the last of my wifes' relatives tombs, which are located within the forest park itself. The walk up the mountain is just like the forest walks I have done in New Zealand and with the weather being on our side during our... More
