There are big fields to play with your dog or fly a kite, Barton Springs is right there as well as some places to rent Kayaks for Town Lake. They put on events like the Kite Festival or Trail of Lights that end up becoming outrageously crowded very fast. Whatever you do, it'll have a great backdrop of the Austin...

We had a beautiful weekend at Zilker Metro Park! Rented a canoe and had a leisurely paddle on the river. The wildlife was out in force. We saw the most beautiful cranes and a mated pair of swans on a little tree island, the female sitting in a huge nest! Most beautiful thing I've ever seen. There was also a...

Nice park in the middle of town. Beautiful lake and well cared for trails to walk, run or bike.Several places had boat rental (paddle boats, kayaks and canoes). Great for anyone at any age.
A park where you can enjoy nature, people watching, walk/bike on the trail, stroll down the Barton Springs Pool, ride the miniature train, go kayaking, visit the sculpture and Japanese garden, play frisbee/football/volleyball, or just plain chilling out by the picnic table. A must visit when you're in the area.

Park is well maintained and lots for the little kids to do, including a sno-cone / ice-cream restaurant with seating, a train ride for the kids (this gets really busy and you may have to wait to get on) and a child's play area. Pavilions also...

This is a beautiful park situated just south of downtown Austin. Lots of wide open spaces for picnics, playing, etc. The park has two sides - the west side is located right next to the river and provides access to both the river and a running trail. The east side of the park includes the Barton Springs Pool. Highly recommend.
At the heart of the city is Zilker Park. Just off Town Lake, it encompasses Barton Springs Pool, soccer fields, sand volleyball and acreage of open grass for kites, kids, and coolers! People bring dogs and babies, radio controlled planes, footballs and frisbees, hula hoops and yoga mats to Zilker. The skyline of Austin is in the distance. This is...
