Loved the Capitol, the grounds were amazing, all the flowers blooming, rose garden was beautiful, then the capitol itself. Just the greatest tour, our tour guide was so nice. No complaints. We think we will come again in the fall.

If you come to visit Austin, this is a must! Beautiful building, nice garden surronding it and in a great location, so after you visited you can go visit UT or head south towards South Congress.
I was totally overwhelmed with the magnificence of the building from inside. The open access to all parts while the offices were functional was such a unique experience. Worth visiting if you are in the neighborhood.
I use to work here and of course love this great building and all it stands for. The remodeling done in the 90s (maybe) is beautiful. Tip: the main entrance is South facing (nod to our Texas heritage). Stop just inside and take a tour. They are free.
The FREE tour at the Texas State Capitol is awesome. My guide was very knowledgeable and witty. Ask for "Aaron" as he mentions loads of small facts that other guides may not think are as important. Listening to him, certainly mad me proud to be a Texan...and I'm not from there! :-) Wonderful!!!

Go directly to the Capitol not the Capitol visitor's Center for tours. Tours start at 9 am inside the Capitol by the tour sign. See pics of all the governors, and learn about the history of the building. You sometimes can go on the Senate floor, and listen to the discussion rather than sit in the galleries.
Its great that they keep it open at all hours for free to the general public. Other states could really learn from this example. Be sure to check out the paintings on the Senate side for the Alamo and San Jacinto battles. Go to the 4th floor for the best views of the rotunda.
