You'll want to pack your lunch and bikes and swimsuit for this adventure. Close to town - yet you feel as if you are world's away in this nature preserve. Bring it all and spend the day hiking, swimming and biking. You'll want to come back again and again!

We were interested in the hiking trails here, and they did not disappoint - it was around low 80s this past weekend in Austin and the trails were mixed between paved/dirt, and open/covered. Not too much elevation but fun to explore. The falls had lots of people playing in the water, and my dog had a great time dipping her... More

I really like McKinney Falls State Park. Today was my second visit - I hadn't been since I first moved to Austin a few years ago. I think the reason we didn't go back is that we went in the winter - nothing was blooming, most of the trees were bare and the water wasn't flowing really at all. That... More

This 744 acre park opened to the public in 1976. The Park is named after Thomas F McKinney who settled here with Stephen F. Austin’s 300 Colonists between 1850 and 1852. Thomas McKinney built the first flower mill in the area and bred race horses. This is a great place to bring the family and go camping, hiking, mountain biking,... More

Close to Austin. Great hike and bike trails. Great for camping. Good family fun. Being a state park, it is reasonably priced.

You can easily spend an entire afternoon at McKinney Falls SP, either walking around the few trails they have or wading around in the water. We were there in April & it happened to be in the 80's so it was a perfect day to walk around & we even saw some people in the falls. (water felt too cold... More

I love this place! Being a fan of insects, there's plenty for people like me to see here, especially with the turn of seasons. Numerous species of butterflies and diurnal moths fly freely, as is thriving the Texas-specific Southwestern Ironclad beetle, which isn't found anywhere outside of Central Texas. If your a fan of uncommon insects, check this place out!

The nature is amazing there. Everyone should be there at least once. If you want to leave noisy city and do not drive too much- it's ideal place for stay.

Stopped by on my way back to Houston. Went to the lower falls. Not much water. But still a nice place to stop by, get your feet wet, go on a trek. If u carry food, spread the towels, eat, sit, chit chat, spend quality family time. Kids will get tired by end of day. If u have a fishing... More
