The collections and exhibits are varied and somewhat avant garde. The museum is a good size - large enough to house several collections, but small enough to maneuver and enjoy in 30 minutes to 3 hours. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The current exhibit of the holdings of alumni was a bit of a shock at first because of the tremendous diversity in the exhibit but it was a lot of fun. We went to the Blanton for the first time during an exhibit that features a collection of art from alumni of the University. We took our kids (5 and 7) with us, and this was their first trip to an art museum. The art on display was diverse, ranging from Monet and Picasso to traditional European art and contemporary art.... The Blanton is east to get to on a weekend and can be enjoyed in a few hours. The docents are pleasant and helpful, and the permanent collections interesting. The "rising waters" installation in the main atrium is a lovely highlight.

Some lovely paintings but the wall colors made it difficult to appreciate them fully and they seemed to be painting the walls even darker in some rooms while we were visiting.
