This is the spot you will want to spend a Sunday afternoon just leisurely taking it all in at your own snail pace. It's one of those places where you eye will behold beauty and you will leave inspired. Great for families, couples or groups. And a wonderful way to cool off during the summer heat! Also, don't miss the... More

I'm an art history student and was interested to see what UT has in their own museum. It turned out to be a decent place with a nice collection, though I won't call it excellent. They have free-admission day every week, and if you happen to be visiting UT campus and get the time, it's a nice place to go.... More

I was really impressed by the collection at the Blanton Museum. While it's really rather a small building, the collection is definitely worth making a few hours to visit. The current UT Alumni exhibition is eclectic and awesome, with some really notable works and artists being displayed representing a range of styles and periods. The contemporary exhibit on the second... More

The collections and exhibits are varied and somewhat avant garde. The museum is a good size - large enough to house several collections, but small enough to maneuver and enjoy in 30 minutes to 3 hours. Of the permanent collections, I especially enjoyed the quantity and variety of modern art upstairs. Be sure to view the painting up close as... More

In April 2013 my husband and I were in Austin on business and I visited the Blanton Museum of Art on the campus of the University of Texas, across the street from the Bob BullockTexas State Museum. The building is astonishingly modern once inside, light-filled with a grand staircase leading to the second floor. I joined a tour led by... More

Well, it is an interesting building with a space in the atrium for a nice ceramic/plastic piece resembling arabic mosaics. The current show, "Through the Eyes of Texas," is an strange idea with only moderate success. So you ask all your wealthy oil donors and alumni to send you their favorite pieces of art, and then you assemble a show.... More

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The current exhibit of the holdings of alumni was a bit of a shock at first because of the tremendous diversity in the exhibit but it was a lot of fun. The exhibits of permanent holdings is wonderful. A volunteer museum docent was very helpful and informative, much appreciated. The validated parking for $3 is a... More

We went to the Blanton for the first time during an exhibit that features a collection of art from alumni of the University. We took our kids (5 and 7) with us, and this was their first trip to an art museum. The art on display was diverse, ranging from Monet and Picasso to traditional European art and contemporary art.... The Blanton is east to get to on a weekend and can be enjoyed in a few hours. The docents are pleasant and helpful, and the permanent collections interesting. The "rising waters" installation in the main atrium is a lovely highlight.

Some lovely paintings but the wall colors made it difficult to appreciate them fully and they seemed to be painting the walls even darker in some rooms while we were visiting.
