A good place to understand what it means to be Texan. Take your picture next to the enormous LONE STAR and tweet it to your friends back home!

If you want to find out why Texans are so proud of their state, start by seeing the 45 minute I-MAX showing at the Texas Museum. Then tour the rest of the museum and learn about the history of this state.

This museum is fabulous!! Creative and interesting displays that make history come to life tell the story of Texas. Just enough to look at, read, and watch. So interesting. I wish all museums were this good. Took us a couple hours to see. We parked at the Capitol and walked over. Didn't see any of the add on IMAX type... More

Located on Congress Ave. near the U. of Texas, this museum is as architecturally pleasing as it is informational. People of ALL ages have things to see, feel, experience and interract with! Lots of fun for everybody! Helpful guides will answer any questions. We took a self-guided tour to give us ample time to take in all there is to... More

Texas history makes anything on the east coast seem rather recent. This really is where American history began. This well-arranged museum tells the story in a fun way. We thought the Imax Canadian Railroad movie was a bit too long, but thoroughly enjoyed the "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" type movie about Texas history, including the Galveston hurricane. We didn't... Located just off of the University of Texas's campus in Austin, the Bullock Texas State History Museum gives visitors a view into the history of the state. You'll learn about the inception of Texas becoming an independent republic, about it being admitted into the United States, as well as life since then including the oil boom. If you have any... More

Went there today with ny parents who came to visit. Most were recreations, and the whole place feel like slightly childish. But information provided was very helpful. We did learn a lot. Recommended if you are interested in oocal history.

Yes, I learned why Texans are so loyal to their state and why they have so much to brag about. This beautiful museum is organized chronologically and is very easy to navigate. Our group of 4 just wandered at a leisurely pace, on our own, and spent time where we were most drawn. I really enjoyed finding out about the... More

Great place as a jumping off point for a visit to Austin. Great for kids, families and adults wanting to get a brief idea about the State of Texas and its history. We purchased 2 adult tickets which allowed us to see the current video( Star of Destiny) in the theater and the exhibits for $22. We spent approx 1.5... More

Most of what we saw was re-creations, other than some papers and weapons, It's a nice building, and helpful people working there, but the exhibits were disappointing. Next day I saw a separate buillding a few blocks away, the state Archives. I wondered if they had exhibits, but didn't go in.
