$12 cover is a little steep, yes, but my friends and I had a great time here. You'll have the most fun if you actually know how to dance, I think, but we scooted around the floor a bit and did our best. Great music, great people watching.

This is a honky tonk, back in time. Sit back, enjoy a pitcher of beer, enjoy the signature dinner of chicken fried steak. Last night there were folks from Montana, Califorina, Germany, Missiouri, Washington Tennessee, and Vancouver BC in addition to other US states. By the way this is a non smoking bar, as I guess is all of Austin....

The dance floor is not wooden but a concrete slab. They also charge for dance class. The cover charge is also much more than many nicer clubs. You can go to Dallas Nightclub & get a FREE dance class on Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday. Check their website for specifics. They have a very large wooden dance floor & reasonably priced...

The night we went the band was Dale Watson & the place was packed..beyond capacity. You could not get a seat or a table, nor could you dance or even hear the band. $12 cover just to get in. Food was mediocre and overpriced. Unfortunately, this honky tonk's building is crumbling in on itself, too. Maybe on a less full...

I have always wanted to go to a true honky tonk and dance!! The Broken Spoke is classic and has fabulous historical pictures from decades and decades past.
We visited Austin in December. It was our 4th or 5th visit in past three years. Our son thought we should see the Broken Spoke dance hall. We were stoked to see Dale Watson and his band.
the building is historic and has not changed in many years. made of wood and even sagging and tilting floor areas....The music was...

The Spoke is a total dive bar and absolutely a must-do in Austin. The music is good, the staff is quirky and the people watching is unbeatable. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because seating is very limited. But if you're willing to get friendly, you can share a table and meet new people.
If you're looking for a good Texas honkey tonk, look no further! For the best experience show up for their free dance lessons before the band goes on; it's great fun for everyone!
Very good food, great service and no one rushes you through your meal, even on a busy day.Well worth stopping in for dinner.
