I loved this huge National Forest in the middle of the city. Beautiful waterfalls, great look out points, and a really fun indoor/outdoor restaurant,La Forestre, or something like that. We saw monkeys, toucans, and some handgliding spots. wonderful.

Huge (artifically-planted) forest overlooking Rio and ocean, with splendid views, and seletion of old mansions and residences giving a glimpse of Rio's distant past. Apparently, cariocas use its tracks and waterfalls as a getaway when loads of tourists flock the city during carnival and high season. A tour through it combined with transit to Corcovado through the backroad is a...

It is a fun drive up to the Chinese Vista to see the historic pagoda and take in the views. The pagoda was under restoration when I was there. Lots of people seemed to arrive on foot or bicycle - that would be a good workout!
In May 2013 I went hiking in Tijuca National Park in Rio De Janeiro with www.rioadventures.com. The park is only a 20 minute car ride from Copacabana. The excellent English speaking guide picked us up at 8.00am. The hiking was along a moderate well marked 6km (round trip) trail to the top of Tijuca peak. It was a sunny day...

We did the Tijuca Express HIke with Jungle Me and really enjoyed it. Our guide pointed out all sorts of flora and fauna and the views from Pedro Bonita were terrific.
A trip to Tijuca National Park is well worth the visit! I took a trekking tour with Jungle Me to the Tijuca peaks where the views are amazing of Rio. You can also see so many beautiful waterfalls (which you can swim in). There are monkeys, birds, racoons, and incredible flora & fauna. Really fun adventure if you like the...

We drove through Tijuca National Park on our way out of Rio. It was a very rainy day and many of the views were obscured but they would have been fabulous. I felt bad for some of the people on tours in open sided jeeps getting soaked. The sites were beautiful and the waterfalls and rainforest were definitely worth seeing....

Really excellent but highly advise you pick a really good guide - this way you will get the most out of it
With the help of a Portuguese-speaking friend we hired a taxi to drive us through the park and stop at all the points of interest. He charged R$260 ($130) to take the five of us on a four-hour tour, which is pretty amazing value for money! Definitely cheaper than going through an official tour group.
There are several scenic overlooks...

I found myself being transported back to my sixth grade science class and my earliest memories in Bible School while in the Park. Plants produce oxygen and consume carbon dioxide. Humans produce carbon dioxide and consume oxygen. I still believe that my body began to feel better while I was in the Forest, and I could almost hear a whisper...
