the cultural history of the temple dates back to two thousand years and the power of the main deity kapaleeshwarar is to be seen and experienced . the karpagambal shrine is also very divine and reminds of the kanchi kamakshi shrine !. the smell of the saffron and the thazhampoo kunkumam is divine here . Great place to be introduced to Hinduism. If you are an early riser try to get there in the early morning when it's not too hit. Recommend going there with the Storytrails Peacock tour where you get an extensive introduction into Hinduism, the Goods and their interrelations.

Visit during the "Margazhi Mahotsavam" to enjoy classical dance and vocals. This is a religious institution make sure you do not offend the locals by acting weird.

It is a brillant example of Dravidian architecture. It is a temple dedicated to lord Shiva, the so-called destructor, but there are too some other small places for lord Ganesha, etc. And besides there is also a renovated tank where people can take sacred bath.

I went with a local on the back of his moped to this temple and he showed me around it, explaining all the details. To be honest, as I'm not a hindu, I was only really interested in the photo opportunity from outside the temple.

Spellbound by its structure. Classic Hindu Temple at the heart of the city. Hindu devotees should visit this temple and tourists should not miss the same. 2 temples mostly with rock structure on Shiva and Parvati. Liked it.

I Love to visit Kapaleshwar Temple in Chennai. The Temple is very huge and impressive. One can peacefully move around the temple without being harassed by touts. The main deity, Lord Kapaleshwar, (that is Lord Shiva) is very impressive and serene, decorated with large garlands which are available only in Tamil Nadu. That apart, we can have a wonderful darshan... More
