Though there are many zoos this is a High altitude zoo similar to the Nainital Zoo.This is a must watch for the rare species of animals found only from the Himalayas .This would be full tireless and enjoyable fun filled visit.A totally different experince watching rare High altitude animals in their comfortable place.
The Himalyan Mountaineering Institute and the Zoo are one package. It is not exceptional but it is worth a visit and I am fond of open zoos. There are tigers, leopards and many more animals to see. Dont miss out on HMI which features preserved memories of Everest climbers. We spent almost 2-3 hours in the zoo and the HMI.
Hats of to the local management for adherence to cleanliness and standards. An impossible feat from general indian tourists who were dirtying the property, teasing the animals, and behaving poorly - I am 100% indian.
I was very pleased to see a decent collection of local animals well maintained. My best wishes to this zoo.

There were a lot of animals and these animals really moved during the day. A lot of zoos claim to have such animals but when you enter, you get disappointed with what you see but this is definitely not a rip-off. It has everything that it claims to have and they are really cute.
From the Road one has to climb up a steep curve almost like climbing 10-15 floors to reach the Zoo. The road within the Zoo also makes you climb up and down a lot. Having said that it is a very nice place for Kids to enjoy. They have maintained some really nice animals which abode on hills and Kids...

the zoo is set up on the hillside overlooking the town and tea plantations. Its a very scenic setting. The zoo is well kept and clean, the area is landscaped so that it is a pleasant walk around the Zoo.
The enclosures arent massive but they are a reasonable size. Bigger than i was expecting for a little Indian zoo....

Loved the Red pandas, the majestic Macaws and theblack panther in the zoo. It is the only zoo in the world where red pandas are bred in captivity - they then release them in the wild. The macaws are too good and you can also visit the Himalayan Mountaneering Institute when you are inside the zoo
In any zoo, climate decides what all animals you can see. If you have children in your group and have a few hours to spare, do visit this place. It is a small place with birds and a few animals. Highlight would be the red panda.
This place also has Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. Zoo has a small outlet serving souvenir...

Its worth a go for some of the mountain species you can see here. Kids would enjoy, and so did we. Its a part of the same campus which houses the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. I recommend a nice long uphill walk from the park to the chowrasta, specially around evenings with the setting sun. Its a beautiful walk. This is...
