Nice place for bird and game viewing. 4 Hides to view from, good picnic area. You can get close to the animals. We were having some refreshments at the tea garden and the rhinos were abut 10 meters away.

Great reserve with numerous antelope, zebra, ostrich, rhino, buffalo and bird species, Had no luck sighting a cheetah, but apparently they are there in the reserve. We got really close to the rhino's though, fantastic experience. There is a great little fenced-off spot for a scenic picnic. We really enjoyed our visit to Rietvlei.
Good place to view game - various buck, zebra, buffalo and rhino. The grass plains are open making game spotting very easy. The many bird species are an added bonus. A special trip to view the lions can also be booked. The tea garden/restaurant offers good value for money. The overnight accommodation in bungalows is to be recommended.
Just next to the Rietvlei Dam East of Pretoria where one can even rent a chalet or have office conferences. An easy time in the bush for the ones that cannot escape to the Kruger Park.
Grassland, not spectacular although unique. Couldn't get close to rhinos as we were on foot. Typical highveld environment. Not far from city center. Well protected nature reserve
Inner city game park with super views , well looked after only 10 minutes from the city center. Most of the popular plains game as well as a great fishing spot. You can take the whole family on this fine trip.
Great for a day out from Pretoria with or without children. Only 20 mins from Pretoria East. Picnic site is well looked after but can be crowded at weekends. We go regularly and in recent months have been watching black backed jackal pups growing up. Rhino seen every time in the last 4 trips and even hippo ( a first...

Rietvlei Nature Reserve is so close to the city but you can still feel like you have gone far away as it is relaxing and calm. A nice place for the whole family outing.
However, if you plan on fishing, this is one of the most difficult dam to fish at.
They have nice camping areas along the dam and...

Visited the Rietblei Nature Reserve on 30 Dec 2012. The park was quite nice but does not match Kruger Park. It is a great park to go to for the day with the family and have a picnic and see some nice animals all at a reasonable price.
If you cannot get to Kruger National park, Addo elephant park etc--and you are visiting relatives or friends in Gauteng near Johannesburg or Pretoria and you want to see -a bit of Africa--then this is well worth a visit.
You will drive around the reserve ( 4x4 not needed) and there are some points where you can get out your...
