This was part of a tour I was on and found it no different to other botanical gardens around the world.
The gardens were beautiful and well maintained and planned. We enjoyed a relaxing stroll and it was a peaceful place to experience. We were there late in the day and it was amazing to see the sun begin to set over the mountain.
Very large area with many hiking trails, ranging from an hour to whole day. Bordering Table Mountain on the south-eastern side. Good souvenir store.
a really lovely botanical gardens, very interestingly laid out with lots of information and an excellent big tearoom/café. Better than Kew, I thought, and in a beautiful setting at the foot of mountains. Allow two or three hours plus time for lunch.
The gardens were beautiful and I can see why it would be a wonderful place to visit in Spring but we went at a bad time. In April everything had just died so it felt very pointless to be there. We would look at all the plaques and dead flowers trying to imagine what they looked like in bloom. It...

Flowers were not in bloom so not to much going on. Would have skipped this at this time of the year.
If you are in Cape Town do try to get to these gardens. They are very beautiful and not that busy either. Lots of walks to do in the surrounding area as well and an excellent way to spend a day.
Absolutely beautiful. A place to visit and be awed by the beauty that surrounds you and so relaxing to just sit and relax.
We took a taxi here on our first full day in Cape Town and it was well worth the visit. We timed things well and managed to catch one of the shuttle tours around the gardens. What better way to enjoy the bird life and the wonders of nature than coming to the gardens. The gardens also has restaurants in that can cater for all taste buds young and old.
