STORE /BOUTIQUE DETAILS: African Trading Port is housed in the V & A Waterfront’s Old Port Captain’s Building, a beautifully preserved, historical, three-story landmark from 1904. Featuring an immense array of artwork and objects d’art from practically each African country and culture, our gallery includes sculpture, artifacts, textiles, bronze ware, jewelry and more. Our unique collection is made possible by our art-scouts who travel specific regions of Africa, going deep into the rural areas and working directly with local communities. Great emphasis is placed on the originality of the goods we source and fair practices in terms of prices paid and regional laws. Our contemporary art collection focuses on the work of recognized artists however we also showcase younger, emerging artists from the African continent. We found this place within our first 24 hrs in South Africa, and were impressed with the range of artifacts..fell in love with a sculpture by Collen Madamembe, and although it weighed 29 k and we lived half way around the world (Canada) they assured it was no problem to ship. Following our month long African trip, the statue arrived... More

On vacation in the lovely city of Cape Town, we stumbled across the African Trading Port, located in the V&A Waterfront. What a great attraction, friendly staff, and great value for money! A must see when in Cape Town. Joel

I found the smaller end itemd much cheaper her then anyplace else. No barining is done nore needed due to good pricing. That being said I found a gold necklace which was priced at about $200 USD. My Credit card was charged 10Xs that amount. I blame myself for not being more careful. After contacting the store they offered to... More

On my recent trip to Cape Town I stumbled into the store as my shark dive was cancelled and I did not have anything else planned. Low and behold, I could not believe all the incredible Afrian art the store has to offer. When I spotted a carved wooden door of the type that I had been researching for the... More

I have travelled extensively throughout Africa and could not believe my luck when I stumbled upon this real gem located at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town. I have never before seen african art, including sculptures, crafts, jewellery and more of such high workmanship and at extremely good value pricing. There is also information on each artist and sculptor... What an incredible shop, filled with a huge array of goods, large and small. Although at the wharf where you would expect prices to be higher, I found them to be very reasonable and competitive. I found the staff very helpful and ended up purchasing a stone sculpture that was too heavy for me to take with me. No problem,... More

I live in Cape Town and stopped by at the African Trading Port looking for some gifts. I found what I wanted but the colour was not what I had in mind. The sales person went to the trouble to go through the stock which was in the store and found exactly what I was looking for. Great service, interesting... More

If you are looking for african curios at a very good price than look no further. Plus located in the Waterfront so very convenient. Also nice range of tshirts for the kids even in the smallest sizes. Unfortunately no lift to first floor where they have even more for sale.
