We saw this as part of a one day High Andes trip out of Mendoza City and were suitably impressed. The curves are indeed spectacular, the rock colours amazingly varied and the mountains including Mount Aconcagua just majestic.

Long but lovely drive especially if you are doing the tour which stops by Puerto De Las Incas. At the top of the curvy road is a small Cristo Redentor, a couple of souvenir shops, brandy and hot chocolate to warm you up as it is windy and freezing even on a sunny day, and the happy knowledge that you...

To drive from Mendoza to Aconcagua, it should take about 2 1/2 hours but it is the main route to Chile and the truck traffic on this two lane road makes it more like a four hour drive. Our return trip was in the two hour range as there weren't any trucks. Doing it as a daytrip from Mendoza makes...

Great views of the Andes. You will be driving on the edge of 3.000-meter cliffs. Not an easy one-way road to drive. I recommend to take a tour unless you are an expert driver
It is long and unpaved and high and narrow and nauseous and dusty and scary, but if you ever loved to drive this is the road to take. It goes through some of the most beautiful landscapes around mendoza, the traffic is not very dense and the drivers are OK so don't think about it twice... just do it!
You got have an adventure spirit to enjoy this atrattion, but the cenary is so beautifull, just unbelieveable. The road fits one car, and you have to drive slowly and carefuly. Very impresive!!!
When the tour guide told us this would be the most complete tour, I did not understand why. On the way to the mountains, I clearly saw what she meant. It is totally savage. We were able to see "guanacos", a big variety of birds, and after all we faced the most amazing thing I could ever imagine: a group...

We traveled from Mendoza to Santiago. In all, the trip took around 6 and a half hours, 40 minutes of which were spent getting the passports stamped. The view was magnificent, even if we couldn't get one of the front seats upstairs.
The drivers are used to these curves and you are never in any danger. Great day! Took ton of pictures.
I had a chance to drive this road on our way back from the Minas de Paramillos (highly recommended) and it was great. I've driven other roads in the world before, including the Davos to Stelvio as featured on Top Gear Season 10 Episode 1. This road was a treat to drive except for the fact that it's rough and...
