Absolutely loved the climb and out guide, Pak Im, was terrific. He is the owner of one of the warungs at the beginning of the trek up to the rim. We left Banyuwangi at 1am with Pak Leo which gave us the right amount of time to climb up in total darkness to see the api biru before daylight. It... More

It is unique! and quite a hike, for the unprepared... but well worth the effort. I actually went 3 times with different friends, and down once to the bottom, following those incredible guys who carry the sulphur back up, then to the Parking... The unsung Heros.

There are a couple of options for visiting Ijen Crater. Most of the tour guides will pick you up at around 2:00am to 4:00am and you arrive at the top of the crater in daylight. We used a local guide who collected us at midnight, and we walked up to see the blue flame in darkness. We were the only... More

Great experience to the steaming crator and workers carrying the sulfur. Nice walk up to the crator. Important: any car can do the drive up to the start of the trecking (NO 4WD needed). Locals drive up with everything on wheels! Two tours are offered: 1.) starting 2am for sunrise on crator 2.) starting 5am for early moring walk to... More

Started hiking at 12.30am and it took us 3 hours to the top. We could see the blue fire but it was from a distance. Was told not allowed to go nearer despite us bringing along heavy duty masks so it was a slight disappointment for my husband who really wanted to take photos. One tip though, start the trek... More

This is an experience not to be missed. The views, the incredible activity, the sulphur carriers and the smell of the Volcano are all quite incredible...I'd do it again...

Started hiking at 0130Hr Reached place with blue fire: 0430Hr Sunrise: 0600Hr Back to starting point of Kawah Ijen: 0800Hr Prepare for tour guide fees, camera fees. Do Bring water (500ml is enough) Wear a good pair hiking shoe (because the route is too slippery) Don't Bring heavy stuff Wear thick clothes (Will sweat along the journey)

Many people are already told about this fantastic experience. I want just add some significant details: All the route is the next: 1) By car from you hotel to sea-port between Bali and Java (for example, it takes 40 minutes from Pemuteran) 2) By ferry - to the Java. Departure each 15 minutes, 1 hour to go 3) By car... More

While it is true that the way up is not spectacular, on arrival at the top lets you hit. A shocking volcano with all the locals going down the crater to collect the sulfur and then sell to the factories around. You will be transported to a fantasy world.
