The Campanile, or Sather Tower to be technically correct, is a visual icon of the Cal campus and a landmark as you approach Berkeley from any direction. It was built in 1907 and at over 300 feet tall is one of the tallest bell towers in the world. There is an elevator that takes you much of the way up... More

Gorgeous campus, very inspiring graduation. An historic campus that makes a very important contribution to the discussion of academic and political ideas.

Went to see my sister get her doctorate. Zellerbach Hall was a great venue to have the commencement.. Loved the music. Keynote speaker, Dr. Toledo, was fantastic. I really liked that each Master and Doctor candidate was hooded by their major professor. Where I'm from the Master and Dr. candidates are herded just like the bachelor candidates. I really liked... Well it was my alma mater. Thirty six years later and I can hardly see the campanile anymore, buildings and trees have almost completely blocked the view. The city has grown up around the campus. Many new buildings, still the hippie vibe.

We first toured the campus on a go cart official tour. The campus is so lovely I return whenever I am in town.

Take a walk across the campus and end up on Fulton for lunch at Gather. I take all visitors to the Campanile Tower, a walk through Sather Gate for a history of the Free Speech Movement and then back through the campus to Fulton St. Shop along the way and then stop for refreshments or a meal at Gather, my... You can visit the college even if you do not attend, with a host of Beautiful Buildings, and the Area is filled with nice little shops and Restaurants, that in my Opinion are as good or better than some in San Francisco at Half the Price, we have Friends who attend now, and they Love it.

As one walks on campus, there are many varieties of architecture to enjoy, evoking the history of the university. A highlight of a walk on campus is to hear the chiming of the carillon from the Campanile, which must be the logo for the campus.
