It is quite a bit colder up there. take gear to hike in snow. Lots of fun, bird watching, snow ball fighting, picture taking, ... There is a bar and restaurant on top - OK. Great view!!! Make reservations ahead of time.

This is an experience not to be missed. Take the Aerial Tramway (which is really a sophisticated cable car) to Mt San Jacinto State Park. The tram ride is amazing and the temperature drops 20°C on climb to 8500ft. Up there you can smell the pine scent in the crisp alpine air. Take the nature walk guided tour (free) with... More

After leaving the Mountain Station, I hiked a couple of trails and was pleasantly surprised by the solitude and pine-scent throughout the area. As I indicated in the Aerial Tramway review, please do visit all the "notches" indicated per trail: there are just breathtaking, panoramic views of the Coachella Valley and points beyond. A quick, true mountain getaway (and really... More

The various shapes of the rocks to form small mountains were most interesting to me, although I have to say the Joshua trees were something to exclaim about as well.

After you get off the tram it's a good idea to rest and get acclimated to the altitude before you make your way down to the trails. You have to navigate down a steep and winding paved walkway to get to the trails. We ventured onto both marked trails. They are moderately treacherous so wear proper shoes and consider using... More

San Jacinto mountains were such a treat to wake up to. We do not have a desert we where live, so it was so much more special

If you like nature, and a bird's eye view, you have to take a half day up here on the mountain. A magical pine forest with bark that smells like butterscotch.....cool rocks, chirping grey squirrels, spongy meadows, and great views of the valley floor. I only wish we had brought a picnic and found a secluded spot to enjoy it!

Loved it here, an alpine wilderness, which is quite inviting after 93 degree heat. Make sure you are equipped for the walks and have plenty of water and a good camera. Pick up a leaflet $6 from the rangers office and see what wildlife you come across. We spotted a 'skink', a type of lizard with an electric blue tail... More

I understand Palm Springs is considered 'high' desert. If so, it is surrounded by even higher 10,000' San Jacinto Mountains. Breathtaking beauty from the desert floor, or the near mountain top [the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway goes to an altitude of 8,000']. The tramway is well-organized, and filled with helpful information. I don't know if it is possible to by... More
