During the pandemic parking here is free!!

They have an amazing water feature that was incredibly fun for the little ones pre-pandemic. We loved the play structures, the walking around and we can't wait until the pandemic is over so the water feature is available again!

I took a wonderful walk around the lake at Hellyer County Park. There were lots of wild fowl to see, which was fun. Others were there fishing, walking, riding bikes, having picnics, or just sitting and enjoying the views. Its a very god park with good picnic areas. There is lots of parking I went on a free use day but sometimes there is a small fee to enter the park.

I grew up near Hellyer Park and played in the Coyote Creek all the time as a child, so naturally I wanted to have my daughters 1st birthday there. So on May 11, 2019 we got there when it opened to reserve our spot. So far so good but we noticed a bunch of cocoons and caterpillars everywhere. These were caterpillars that I hadn't seen before so besides a nuisance we didn't think much of them and continued with our set up and party. So I started to noticed a welt on my shin next my arms and next, I usually get welts from mosquito bites so I assumed I was getting bit but I could not see any mosquitoes, plus I sprayed myself that morning in hopes of protecting myself a little. As the day progressed multiple guests started to experience rashes, I myself by the end of the day was covered in hives. We started Googling the caterpillars and found that there are Tussock Moth Caterpillars and the hairs on them can cause adverse reactions. The hairs can also be airborne. I read that these are not native here but typically make a pass every 10 years but apparently this is the 2nd year in a row that they are here in the bay area. They are typically most active in May and should be gone after that. So my low rating is only a reflection of my experience in May. I think the Rangers or Park staff should at a minimum post WARNING SIGNS or ALERT guests about the caterpillars and the potential danger they pose.

Park Rangers who selectively do tasks that do what they want, open & close the park with fury, and with closing with rash & rude demeanor. Yet during park hours no where to be found, bathrooms are dirty, stinky, and basically not maintained. They seem to be focused on the 'law' enforcement aspect of their jobs but pay no mind on the revenue loss everyday with cheap patrons who park in the residential streets that line the west side of the park. Why not enforce that? I often walk or ride my bike through the park and often witnessed or first-hand experienced the verbal abuse of power by these Rangers. But once the park is closed, no enforcement! The strategy of wielding power tripping Rangers to make patrons experience a negative one so that they won't come back doesn't always work. Anyway, it used to be a nice park to have a BBQ or walk & hang at the park with the family. But it's mismanaged in so many ways. To where I don't reserve the picnic areas any more. Relations with the Park Rangers & staff is pathetic. Poor attitude and no accountability of said attitude means it won't change. I've periodically try the visit the park to find it hasn't.

This park is a great place to celebrate special occasion such as birthdays or getting together with friends for BBQ. The park has a children playground, ample parking, a lake to feed fish of even fishing. Just a few steps away from Guadalupe trail where you can enjoy a bike ride or a walk. Highly recommended.

this is a rare jewel, the park is divided up into several sections on two different sides of the road. On one side you have picnic areas and a lake. On the other side you have several picnic areas, two dog parks and a velodrome. A slow running creek flows past both sides, it is a truly beautiful place.

I have been to the grassy, dog park on numerous occasions. It is nice and it is not very busy but there is usually one or two other dogs for yours to mingle with.

The park is lovely, especially in the spring, and it is relatively flat so you can go for a nice walk regarless of your age or physical conditioning.

I visit Hellyer to bike the paved trail, which is extensive--I can ride from the parking lot 10 miles to lunch at a golf course, or an additional 5 miles to a picnic lunch at a different park. The trails were recently repaved and are a pleasure to bike or walk on. If you want to, you can just enter the park and have a picnic at the lake. Its a nice respite from the city.
