An interesting geological phenomenon (my unscientific opinion). Very interesting and worth a stop and a walk.
Though about driving through the area, but stopped for a break and walk on the beach. It was fun looking for the colored stones and comparing our finds with each other.
The ocean is sooo beautiful here. We observed sea life, including whales and dolphins. There are nice places to stay.
The Moonstone Beach motels and Restaurants and Boardwalks are a delight, rivaling Oregon beaches. If you can get a fog-free time to visit, it is well worth the travel from the bay area, or LA and points beyond.

We didn't have much time to linger since we were on our way north up the California Coast, but decided to swing by to enjoy the Ocean View. Many nice restaurants and places to stay. I think we will plan a romantic getaway sometime soon!
We enjoyed walking along the boardwalk and watching all the little tame squirrels living underneath come out for food. One guy was feeding one right out of his hand. My husband didn't want wet sand on his shoes so we did not walk the beach itself. Glad we went to see it, though.
