Who would have thought to visit a courthouse? Such beautiful architecture. We climbed to the top for a vista of Santa Barbara, but you can also take an elevator. It is all free of charge too.

We walk around Santa Barbara a lot since we are local and like the area. Easy walking! This place is a beautiful structure from times gone by. Enjoy the day touring it, strolling on the beaches, and having a wonderful meal in downtown Santa Barbara!
Architecture is not usually on the top of my list when vacationing, but this building is worth a one hour side trip. Beautiful from top to bottom. Must see while in Santa Barbara
It sounds odd to say that visiting a courthouse was a good experience but it was a beautiful building. The old original courtroom is a must. No wonder people go there to get married.
We visited late in the day on a weekend and found the place quiet and peaceful. The tile work and architecture of the building are beautiful. there was a lot of restoration work going on so we could only go up to the tower but really only a 15 min stop.
This is one of the central places in Santa Barbara, you should visit! Is very central and you can go on the top of the tower and get a great view to the city. Sometimes there's marriages there and important events.
Be sure to take the tour. This building has wonderful art and history, then take the elevator to the top and see the city and the Pacific from above. Sit in the courtyard and just enjoy the ambiance.
Take the elevator to the top floor and walk a short flight of stairs and you will have the best view of Santa Barbara. You can view downtown, the mountains, the oceans, and all of the beautiful homes in the surrounding area. The courthouse itself is an architectural treat from the 1930's. Giant murals, high ceilings, huge beams, tile floors....

We didn't look at the mural (been there, done that) or climb the tower (ditto) but it's always a treat to walk through the garden and into the courthouse. Wish I could choose it for jury duty.
