The drive to the top of Pike's Peak is spectacular. The road is well maintained. The drive is a little intense but there are places to pull off to rest and take pictures. At the top you can enjoy the feeling that you are standing on top of the world and get a delicious , freshly made doughnut. Perfect because...

When we go to the Springs we usually pick places that do not cost money. Why pay for attractions when so much free beauty and places to go are available? But this is the one exception. We find it worth the price to drive up. Take your time. Bring a lunch and eat by reservoir. Stop often to enjoy view.
My husband hiked the Peak and I drove up to get him. I think my job was just as hard as it's very steep and no guard rails. Amazing views on top and a must is the home made donuts at the summit. $12 admission.
Spectacular views. Drive may be a bit hairy around some turns but definitely worth it. The facilities at the top are standard tourist souvenir shop with a bit of a snack bar with fresh donuts. Walking around the perimeter is a must. Be prepared for cold 30 degrees F even in June.
I had been to Pike's Peak by Cog Railway 15 years ago. This time took my kids up by car. Glad I did. Beautiful views! Only negative was the summit was closed due to wind. So we only got to go to mile 13. For 2 kids and 2 adults cost $34...not bad when compared to cost of riding railway...

Second best (Trail Ridge 1st) drive ever taken. Views are breath taking and there are some good stopping points along the way (take the 6 and 12 mile stops) , which makes driving preferrable to the train. But take note, the alltitute can affect you so if your the driver, be careful for there are some points that you'll want...

This starts out as the most beautiful, scenic trip ever. However, as you ascend the mountain and the road narrows, there are very, very few railings. It looks as if you are going to drive off the end of the Earth. You car feels like it is begging for you to turn around.
If you are not afraid of heights,...

Driving to the summit of Pikes Peak seems like one of those 'Must Do' activities while in Colorado Springs, but I would say that its just an 'OK' activity. It is $12 a head to do the drive up the winding slope. On a clear day, the view from the top very nice but once you have taken that in...
