The University of Florida was fortunate to be funded for the study of various species of butterflies. They developed an academic program, but even better, they shared it with the public. The enclosed garden of beautifully landscaped plants, streams, and waterfalls contains free flying butterflies of many species with hundreds of colors and shapes. A stroll through the garden will... I have visited many butterfly gardens all over and this one is the best by far. It is in the natural history museum so plan on several hours if you want to see everything. We spent 3 hours in the garden alone. This is a must see if you are in the Gainesville,Florida area.

You have to see it to understand why this place is so popular. It's difficult to describe the effect of such a profusion of butterflies in such a lush setting. There are butterflies everywhere -- soaring and flitting through space or peacefully resting on flowers, leaves, stems, or walkways. Their colors are like little jewels dancing in a show they... This is such a beautiful setting filled with lush landscaping, butterflies, birds and flowers. There is an abundance of spectacular butterflies. The two gentlemen who were on duty April 25th were so very kind, personable and informative. People of all ages will have a good time!

The whole family loved this place including my 19 month old grandson. The exhibit is beautiful and the butterflies are very friendly. One landed right on my mothers head. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. A great place to see and learn as well. Highly recommended and we will definately go back again. Must see for sure...

A visit to the Butterfly Rainforest should be at the top of your list while visiting in Gainesville. It is not a disney-like tourist attraction (although certainly an attraction), but a real scientific laboratory for the genetic study of butterflies and related insects. But of course the highlight is walking in a gorgeous botanical garden filled with hundreds of beautiful... More

I love taking people who are new to Gainesville or just visiting to the Butterfly rainforest because it is something that not many people have ever seen before. It's also a great value for your money, because you can spend as much time as you like enjoying the butterflies, the koi, and scenery.
