The beach is swarming with homeless people and the water never gets deep. You can go out 100 feet and it will still be only knee deep. The water is a gross green color and you can't even see a foot deep. There are small and large fish that bite your legs and the bottom of the ocean floor is... More

I haven't been there in quite some time as I don't live in Key West anymore but I grew up around Catherine and Packer and this is me and my familys favorite beach. When I come home for visits that is where I go in the evenings. It's always clean, the waves not high, the sandburrs all erraticated. Nice area... More

We went to this beach after going to the beach at Fort Zachary Taylor. We preferred this beach as it had soft sand, smaller waves, a shaded and enclosed playground for our kids and bathrooms and showers nearby. The parking was free and there was a sit down restaurant right there. This is the beach we would come back to.

We drove down from Islamorada for the day and stopped for an hour or so to swim at Higgs Beach. It is protected so no worries about waves or rip tides and since we were there close to low tide we were able to walk out quite far. The beach is free and has bathrooms/changing rooms. There is also an... More

We stopped by Key West on a cruise. It was cold the day we were in port so we did not get in the water but we wanted to go to a beach. We rented an electric car while in port and the saleswoman recommended this beach. The sand was very soft, the beach was clean, there was a playground... More

On our recent visit to Key West we stopped at Higgs Beach to get a few pictures. We were the only ones around. We ate our lunch under a tree. It was a nice, quiet area to enjoy the beach. I can't comment on the water because we didn't go in but theree is also a nice pier at this... More

Key West is apparently not known for its beaches. There seemed to only be 3 main spots – Smathers, Fort Zach, and Higgs. We didn’t go to Smathers (spring break central) but definitely preferred Higgs to Fort Zach. The parking was free, the beach was immediately accessible, the sand was nicer, the water was clean, and there were fewer rocks... More

This is a wonderful beach with amazing soft sand. It is very shallow and not very big waves. You can snorkel right off the pier, there are even stairs into the water. Rent chairs and umbrella for a wonderful day at the beach!

This is a wide public beach with restrooms and volleyball courts. The sand is great. There are also shaded pavilions for those of us who sunburn easily!
