The Sugar Mill Ruins are the remains of a large sugar plantation before it was destroyed by fire. The walls are half standing, but make for some interesting photo opportunities. There is a nature trail easily walked but does not add much except a little exercise to the visit. The park extends to a river which can be kayaked. This... More

Worth visiting, only takes a few minutes to stop and check out this historical site. Nice place to take some interesting pictures.

This was a cute garden to visit when it was too cold for us to go to the beach. Big enough to be interesting but small enough that it could easily be walked in it's entirety in an hour or so.

Stayed at the RV park for 4 night. Had a great time. It is beautiful. Awesome lake in the back that is beautiful, orange trees, squirrels and geckos. Bike/walking trails, nice trail to a shopping center with a Publix, not far at all. Nice outdoor pool and patio. Cheap drinks and ice cream. Very nice people. We really enjoyed ourselves... More

Good for a leisurely walking visit. The exhibit is Outdoors. Turn from main road was hard to locate with GPS.

I stumbled across these ruins on a bike ride the other day. I never knew they were here. I mean, I knew there were sugar plantation ruins around here somewhere - I just didn't realize they were right down the street from me. The ruins are actually quite memorizing. It's almost like stepping back through time. Very neat. Until seeing... More

While in a restaurant I picked up a local guide and saw the ruins listed so when we were looking for something to do we decided to go. The entrance was easy to pass up but there is a sign which leads down a dirt road to what turns out to be a very nice small park. The mill was... More

Free, quick and close. My family and I where headed to the beach and I decided to add some history to our beach visit (Ages 41,39,11,8, and 5). Before you go, look up New Smyrna Sugar Mill Ruins or Cruger and DePeyster Sugar Mill. This site is 10-15 minutes from Turtle Mound and is a great tie-in when talking about... More

ever wonder how they managed to produce molassas and sugar in Florida? Visit the Ruins and appreciae for how hard it was to be a slave in nineteenth century Florida, Makes one ashamed ot the people white men call their ancestors.

We found this by accident. Small but informative. Self guided with a small but pretty nature trail that made us feel we were in a jungle. It only takes 30 minutes of your time but worth it.
