Great place to take the kids. This was a good stop on the base. Lots of History here. The fort faces the Ocean and you would not know it was there when you walk up on it,it is dug into the ground.

A nice fort but not nearly as large as Fort Pickens at Pensacola Beach. Also, keep in mind that this is located within the Navy base so although you don't need to be military to gain entrance, you will be required to stop at the checkpoint and let them know what you are going to be doing.

Walking through the old archways under the fort is very cool. We explored all the nooks and crannies we could find. The old powder rooms were interesting, and walking the walls outside, you can see the advantage of a fort at that position on the shore. I loved the giant old water oaks. Great place for a picnic.
The visitor center explains about the fort. There is not much there other than the fort but that was probably all that was there during the Civil War. Interesting to see how the men lived and worked at the time in an effort to keep their homes safe.
While at the Naval Air Museum, took a side trip to Fort Barrancas.I had been some rebuilt forts in the past and battle fields .but this is the first time to a real fort from Civil war.Wish I had more time to look it over.It is real interesting ,,there are other forts in the area I did not get to see...

I've been to Pensacola area numerous times and finally made a stop at the Fort. It was very well preserved and interesting to walk around and see.
A nice side stop back in history after a day of viewing planes at the Navy Museum. An interesting Civil War story and a nice restoration. Not a ton to see and do here but worth a quick stop if in the vicinity.
Loved the Fort! Very interesting piece of history to visit! Would highly recommend a visit if you are into history.
