If you have to choose between the tour at Flagler College and the museum, go to the College for the greater wow factor. This place has lovely bones, a gorgeous mosaic floor greets you, along with a few antiques, then you go into collection-land...buttons, cigar bands, toasters, sea shells, crystal bowls, photos of native Americans gone by, some Victorian musical... I visited Lightener Museum back in 2007 and it was gorgeous; the history, the atmosphere, and the artifacts are what brought me back. This place has changed so much. The artifacts are still there and as interesting as ever, but this place needs to be restored. There were loose tiles in the bath house, with no indication to watch our... More

Incredible museum to see...... a time capsule......a must see! We visited the museum to see all the historical items relevant to St. Augustine and Florida. We were also mesmerized by building itself.... the architecture is stunning!

Although I've been to St. Augustine many times, I've never visited the Lightner Museum until this past May. I'm so glad I finally decided to make it a part of my trip. The walk up to the entrance is beautiful and I loved the koi pond (don't forget quarters, you can feed them!). Before you even make it inside, the... More

The museum is housed in a turn of the century very upscale hotel. The items displayed are varied and interesting. The real star of the visit is the building itself. My wife and I enjoyed the two to three hours we spent there.

We were recently in St. Augustine for the second time and again we shortchanged ourselves time wise and did not see the museum. Our bad I guess. However, we did take perhaps half an hour to explore the building up to entering the museum part. It was a grand hotel that was built at the same time as the Ponce... More

I was more interested in the architechture of the old Alcazar Hotel than the collection of 'stuff' that someone named Lightner chose to store there.

This place in my opinion is not for small (not well behaved) children and/or individuals that get bored easily. I cannot begin to tell you how much is actually in this museum. There are all types of displays, statues, works of art, etc. It is multi-level and to me was a great visit. They also have a music room where... More

I liked seeing the antiques and glassware. There was a big variety including the Turkish bath and the science displays. I love the courtyard and feeding the fish.
