We didn't want to pay $9 each to visit the shell museum, so we stopped by here. There's loads of shells on display... and if you need to see more, go to the beach! Very large clean library.

If you are looking for a quiet, beautiful and serene place, stop in at the Sanibel Library. Browse the wonderful display of shells on the main floor and skip paying admission/donation fees at the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum. Have your kids (or you) sit in the SL Readmore rowboat for a wonderful photo opp and then browse through their sale room...

For atmosphere and service, this is a true sanctuary for readers and writers of all ages. I've spent time in libraries all over the country and Sanibel stands out. If it had a cafe, I could live there. Good thing the library is in the educational mode, exclusively.
What an amazing library. Very organized with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. I love that you can trade puzzles, look at a shell exhibit AND a fossil exhibit. Fossils were collected in the parking lot area when the library was being built. Fascinating! It has such a warm and friendly feel. The back patio/deck has rocking chairs where you can...

If you have someone who really enjoys sea shells, the collection at the Sanibel Public Library is beautiful to behold. Non residents can obtain a library card for a nominal fee. The library also has a small selection of used books for sell.
Good selection of books etc. and very friendly service. A great place to bike to and cool off on a hot day!
The library is in a beautiful spot on the island and is a great spot to check out. I went there to print my boarding pass and check on emails. Everyone was extremely helpful.
Our first day on Sanibel Island took us to the spacious, friendly public library. A huge selection of children's items (not only books), a large print collection, maps, displays, and underground parking made this a highlight for us. Plus, we were offered a visitor card for a very reasonable price. What a great way to start our vacation.
