What a great idea….to take an old railroad and turn it into a safe place to enjoy nature…have rode our bikes many many times…and always enjoy it! It is very safe and not too crowded…everyone is friendly and there are places to stop and rest every few miles and even a port-a-potty here and there. Don't miss this lovely, peaceful... More

We bike the trail every time we vacation in Siesta Key, doing different parts on different days, adding in Venice, the Canal, Caspersen Beach, the Fishing Pier and the north end for manatee and dolphins. We even had a Gator at the side of the trail this time - bit scary. Try it!

This is a very safe (not on road) isolated paved trail between Sarasota and Venice. It is approximately 10 miles in length with many stops along the way. You can rent bikes and take them to the trail head.

Beautiful trail; we saw snakes crossing the road, turtles, birds, lizards, you name it. It was like going on a bike ride through Jurassic Park! I love it

This is a fairly recent addition to the Sarasota region. It is a rail-to-trail that extends 10 miles to Venice. It is wide and nicely paved. I am fairly new to Florida and I was pleased at how the drivers stop at the crossings, even though it is the bikers, and not the drives, who have a stop sign. Parking... More

Nice, nice biking trail. Some walkers. Crowded on weekends. People are courteous when passing. Some wildlife to be seen. Accessible from Oscar Scherer State Park and several parking lots to use along the route if you haul your bike. Shaded rest areas along the route are nice touch.

I have ridden my bike the entire length of the Legacy Trail several times. I particularly like heading south from the Laurel Rd. access point, which affords the thrill of riding up the overpass on Tamiami Trail in Venice. It's a good workout. Heading south allows the connection to the Venetian Waterway Trail which culminates at a park with restroom... More

We finally got around to riding the Legacy Trail, and we were not disappointed. We started at the northern end and rode the entire length. You can continue, which we did, down past Venice. Never quite made it to the beach, but some fellow adventurers told us you could if you stayed on the trail. Nice, flat, paved trail. Very... More

On a recent trip for vacation to Sarasota, my wife and I rented bikes and rode the length of the Legacy Trail to Venice. We rented bikes in Siesta Key and rode the 5 miles to the start of the trail (through neighborhoods and busy roads). From there it was smooth sailing. Early on in the trail and otter scampered...
