From floors to ceilings and the unusual architecture Ca d'Zan is truly unique. Set on the edge of Sarasota Bay, this mansion is a prime example of lifestyle of the rich and famous.
Every third Thursday during season we have the opportunity to see the sun set over the bay from the grounds of the Ca d'Zan. The terrace and the Bolger Campiello offer great views, and there's music, a cash bar and food as well. At the time of our visit, this was from 5-8pm and was included in the $10 Art... More
Between the Ca d'Zan (House of John) mansion tour - the architecture is amazing - the museum, the gardens, etc... you can spend the day here. Being a local, it took me a long time to get around to it, but I am so glad I did. It's a great piece of Sarasota history.
My wife and I spent the extra $20/person to take the private tour of the upstairs bedrooms, office, exercise room and game-room with a knowledgeable guide that pointed out the little points of each room. The game-room was especially interesting. The outside views from the rooms and the rooftop balcony were outstanding. The living areas downstairs showed Ringling's awareness to... More
What a beautiful place!! The tour guides are very helpful and informative. They seemed to be very enthused about the Ringlings. I can't believe that this home was built in the early 1900's!! I would live in it today, it was pretty state-of-the-art for it's time. Mable Ringling had great taste.
The scale and design are instructive and enjoyable. The colored glass windows give the home an ever-changing look on both the inside and the outside. We love the internal courtyard design ... We can sit and linger on the patio overlooking the Bay for hours. Couple that with a little jazz and you have a great afternoon and evening. Soon... More
John Ringling, the great showman, was also a great deadbeat and corner cutter. He stinted on the materials that went into this waterfront mansion and never paid the architect. The first thing you'll notice is the questionable taste of the furnishings. Next, the terrible proportions of the rooms as well as the exterior of this wanna be Venetian palazzo. If... More
I grew up going to the circus, and we love to tour homes when we're away. If you're of a similar mindset, John & Mabel Ringling's Sarasota home is worth your time. First, take both tours. The private tour is worth the extra few $$. The history lesson that accompanied the tour was very interesting. On the first tour, we... More
While a bit pricier than we had expected, this is a must stop for you touring of Sarasota. We loved seeing the mansion, walking the gorgeous grounds, and touring the gardens. The views of the waterfront are breathtaking. What we were surprised by is the wonderful history lesson we received and the impact this family and this property had on... More
Taking the full tour is worth it. Lavish rooms with ornate furniture, architecture is interesting, great views of the bay, and gives much incite into the lifestyle of the Ringlings and their social set. If you plan to tour all the attractions on the property (Art museum, circus museums, gardens and Ca d'Zan). Allow at least 4 hours. Restaurant in... More
