This is a hollowed place for gardeners in Chicago; humid rooms filled with Palms, ferns, orchids.....earthie scents, trickling waterfalls, surprize niches....it's just so lovely. There are three main viewing rooms and a seasonal show room for things like bulbs (spring) hostas and annuals (summer) etc. Don't miss the Augusta St Gaudens fountain in the exterior esplanade to the south. Amazing how they have so many different types of plants and regions in such a small area. The fountains and plants make for a great break in the middle of summer!

Or palms? Or ferns? Meander from room to room in the sprawling greenhouse to discover a tremendous variety of plant life from around the world. Each species is clearly labelled with English and Latin names and country of origin. Most of the rooms feature soothing ambient sounds of bird calls and running water--a very relaxing way to pass an hour.

Even on the most bitter cold day at the end of January, this was a beautiful oasis. I highly recommend if even for just a few minutes of warmth if visiting during the winter.

This was quite a little gem in Lincoln park. We stopped in there on our way to the zoo. It was full of beautiful plants and flowers, a very peaceful little place. Don't miss this when you would like a little serenity and beauty.

A green respite and a nice contrast with the adjacent environs of Lincoln Park Zoo or when the jostling crowds of the streets and sidewalks of Chi town overwhelm. Just be prepared, if you wear them, to have your specs fog over from increased humidity in several of the rooms. Many are devoted to lush tropical plantings with variegated colors... More

Part of a walk in Lincoln Park. Accessible via public transit from downtown. Nice conservatory but be prepared for the humid air. Mix of plants in an old style building.

Feeling a bit down from the winter blues, just head to the conservatory. The lush green and the flowering plants will brighten a long dark day. It is so peaceful there.
