Don't bother to rental a boat at busse woods. The hillbillies that run the place will blame you for everything wrong with their twenty year old boat. My experience started with no battery in the boat and then when I had problems with the boat it was my fault. I have never been talked to in such a unprofessional way.... More

Whether you bike or walk, this is an extensive and well kept trail system. There is a bike/pedestrian bridge to help users get across busy Higgins Road. Always fun to visit the elk enclosure.

I have been enchanted with this specific Forest Preserve for several years now. I travel a lot for work and I always try to find a place that has a nice place to run. The Busse Woods Forest Preserve has won my heart. I usually stay at a hotel within running distance and since I run freakishly early (2:30 -... More

Good place to run and walk. Nice for family. Elks are on site which our son loved. The trail is flat and easy running/ walking. A nice way to spend a morning.

An oasis of Forest Preserves in an unincorporated, County owned area. There are paved pathways for walkers, runners, bikers, roller bladers, strollers. Areas for picnics & fishing in the lake (permits required in IL, so I am assuming for here are well). Get there early on the weekend because it can get crowded. Around dusk you may be luck &... More

Over the Labor Day weekend, my son and I went to Busse Woods to rent a canoe and practice paddling on Busse Lake in order to prepare for a High Adventure trip to the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area next year. The boat rentals are located on a small bay of the lake behind one of the larger islands. There is... More

Although crowded on nice days and especially on weekends, Busse Woods Trail System offers a decent (9+ miles) cycling/running/walking loop. Regular users are pretty trail savvy and know how to share the trail with others. Nice "after workout" refreshment options (e.g., Starbucks, Jamba Juice) are at nearby Streets of Woodfield - which is within easy walking/cycling distance of the trail.

Just the right mix between rustic beauty and easy to navigate trails. The Elk enclosure is an extra bonus, though the Lake is the high point, especially at sunrise and sunset.
