There are continual tours of the house so wait time, if any, is very short. The house and grounds are very well maintained and the tour guides (who are all volunteers) extremely knowledgeable. The views of Galena from the house which sets on the edge of town are beautiful. We enjoyed our visit.

Enjoyed our visit to US Grant's home. The tour guide knew so much about President Grant and his family. It was very interesting. The furnishings are all authentic from him and his family.

Last time we were in Galena, the Grant home was closed. We planned our trip this time so we could stop in. This is definitely worthwhile. There is no admittance fee, but they do ask for a donation and recommend $5 per person. The house is well restored and maintained. Most of the furnishings in the house are original. The... More

If you are a history buff, why wouldn't you want to add to your knowledge base? It's clean, neat, and accurate in its facts and presentation.

We have a better feeling about U.S. Grant after this trip to Galena. He was a family man! Loved seeing the Grant home and appreciated how simply he lived. We had a beautiful walk from town, across the bridge and up the hill. Surprisingly, we were the only visitors on a cold and drizzly day. Our tour guide had memorized... More

Touring this wonderfully maintained home was like stopping by to visit an old friend on a Sunday afternoon. All the original furnishings, so carefully preserved but naturally arranged, made me feel as if the Grants would come through the doorway to welcome me at any moment. The tour guide was wonderful and so well informed, providing the kind of historical... More

I'm still trying to picture U.S. Grant, Abraham Lincoln, Mrs. Grant, and Susan B. Anthony hanging out! Wish I could have been a fly on the wall back then and listened in on those conversations. The fact that so many of the original items are still in the house is so neat! It was a very informative tour. The guides... More

We spent Easter weekend in Galena and were very interested in touring Grant's home which sits high on a bluff overlooking the Galena River. The tour was full of history, artwork, period furniture and looks as though the Grant family was simply away for the day. It was noted by our teenage daughter that Galena and Grant's home would be...
