We kayaked down Bayou Teche and across a canal to Lake Martin and then around and across the lake. Exquisite. It was interesting kayaking the bayou and the canal was quiet, beautiful and almost primeval. The lake is rimmed with swamps filled with aligators, turtles, frogs and hundreds of birds. The lake is also dotted with a few dozen duck... More

If you enjoy things in the outdoors and seeing wild things, this is a great place. The are gators in abundance the heron/egret rookery is nothing short of amazing and viewable from the road. You'll want to make time for this place.

This is a rare sight. Large water fowl including Herons and Roseate Spoonbills will turn you into a birder. This was certainly the most picturesque bayou we saw on our trip.

Lake Martin is a natural lake that was flooded to a peripheral dike about 60 years ago, so it has a large open center and extensive cypress swamps all around the lake. We toured it once with Norbert LeBlanc and then again on our own in kayaks from Bayou Teche Experience. There are about 1500 alliators in the swamp and... More

We took a 2 hours swamp tour on Lake Martin. There seems to be a feud going on between the old time guides and the newer commercial operators. Our guide (one of the old timer) was very knowledgeable about plants and wildlife in the Lake. We were lucky that the day was cool with low humidity. This tour is much... More

My friend & I would frequently come here on the weekends to photograph the birds and practice bird calling. Such a tranquil & beautiful place. Go between March & June to see the egrets & herons and ibis nesting. Great photo opportunities.

I loved my swamp tour, the guide was amazing, and answered every question the group had. And had a HUGE amount of knowledge about the area.hey also are responsible, as they do not feed the gators - which encourages them to approach humans - a big no no. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to go out and... More

Breaux Bridge is a quaint and bustling little town near Lafayette, La.. In addition to being the crawfish capital of the world, it's a great place to enjoy shops, local restaurants and an easy float down the Bayou Teche with Bayou Teche Experience. The Teche is a gentle and lazy waterway that was once the original course of the Mississippi... More

We visited here the last week of April. Approximately 8 types of larger migratory birds use this as a rookery and it was filled with nesting birds. Bring binocculars! A bonus are the swamp tours, fishing and other wildlife viewing including a couple of large gators. The nature conservancy has an interpretive center that is just off the highway where... More

The swamp tour with Norbert Leblanc, a 78 years old cajun was unforgettable, he is so respectful of the wild life and he explained us a lot about alligators and this lake
