Very interesting to see all the houses and the area display. only issue was the restaurant where my wife ordered a jacket potato with bacon, sour cream and cheese filling. The potato arrived with no filling and the waitress said they were waiting for it to come in. Had they said before it was deliveered we could have ordered something...

I lived in Lafayette for almost 3 years before I ever visited Vermilionville. But then my mom & aunts came to town on vacation so I finally got to "play tourist" with them for a few days. This spot is really beautiful and a lovely depiction of the Cajun history that many non-natives don't get to see, especially in this...

After the Acadian Cultural Center, which is nearby, this is a must see. It is a restoration of a typical Cajun town similar to a Williamsburg thing. The day we were there, they had several villagers doing things things the "old way." There was a cook making candy, a blacksmith making a door hinge, a lady sewing and making dolls...

I enjoyed visiting Vermilionville. I would suggest visiting the Acadian culture center next door before you visit so you can get an overview of the Cajun history. I would have liked to see more information in the buildings themselves. I liked going over the bridge that you had to pull over to the other side. The guides in period costumes...

Our friends wanted us to visit this attraction because they had visited before and enjoyed the history lessons. The only problem is we arrived about 45 minutes before they closed. There is a $5.00 per person entrance fee. We did not want to pay this amount since we would have to rush through the village. Maybe next time we are...

We enjoyed a stroll through this wooded living history museum and lunch in the cafe serving Cajun food.
The village of settler era buildings is authentic and well maintained, with friendly and helpful tour guides to explain key parts. We also enjoyed the flowering trees and the attention to labeling the trees and herbs. Quite a good gift shop also, but note the early closing time in the afternoon.
As "living Museums" go, this one is small in size. The staff are uniformly friendly, knowledgable and helpful. The museum offers a good opportunity to glimpse aspects of the day-to-day life of the early Cajun settlers. If there is flexibility in deciding "which day of the week to visit", a determining factor might be "the live Cajun music concert presented...

As someone with little knowledge of Cajun history, the tour gave us an informative insight into the origins and development of Cajun life in Lafayette. The self guided tour is easy to follow, and listening to the Cajun music jam session was just brilliant.
