We first experienced the Railway on a weekend ride during peak foliage. The rails go through beautiful countryside, over bridges above water and through the woods. You can sit inside or outside; we sat outside. We took our grandson and totally enjoyed ourselves. A couple of months ago we rode the train, instead of driving, to the Common Ground Fair... More

Very friendly crew and the ride is extremely scenic. A great little train ride. They are very knowledgeable about the history of the area. if you like railroads, most of their equipment is stored in another area of the railroad line. The staff can direct you to there.

This is a pleasant hour-long ride from Belfast to Waldo. Scenic views of both the coast and (mostly) the interior of the area are the lure, as well as pleasant seating on an outdoor bench or an indoor seat. The train is staffed by a volunteer. Snacks and drinks are available for purchase, and there is a bathroom on board.

Train goes no more than 5 miles an hour. Leaves from a parking lot outside of town because as the waitress at the Weathervane told me, they got tossed out of downtown years ago. Looking at the tracks, you wonder they let it run at ALL. No one provides any kind of commentary or "patter" to make it interesting. I... More

Riders enjoying the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad are greeted by volunteers. These volunteers answer questions and provide information about the railroad. As a NON-PROFIT all VOLUNTEER railroad we continually improve our operation. We are exploring an intercom system that will allow our volunteers to provide commentary. The Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad, operated by the Brooks Preservation Society began... More

The ride only goes a very tiny distance outside of Belfast, and the 'Moosehead' part only refers to the original name of the railway company that existed years ago. This trip has nothing to do with Moosehead beyond that. I'd love to see this train Really go somewhere- then it would be worth riding.

It is unfortunate that you did not enjoy your experience. Our regular train rides offer our riders a one hour trip. A guest will enjoy a train ride of 12 miles (round trip) departing Upper Bridge Station and arriving at the former site of the Waldo Station. The Brooks Preservation Society (BPS) operates the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad. BPS's... More

We took the train ride while staying in Belfast on our honeymoon . The people went out of their way to be friendly. They made us feel like family.

Thank you for the kind review. The Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad is an all volunteer organization as well as a non-profit. Our volunteers work hard to make railroad operations possible. Again, thank you for the kind comments! We hope to see some you again! Best wishes. More

Bring the kids, it's a great novelty! One of my fondest childhood memories was from the day I was on the railway!

This is a great way to spend a few hours, unfortunately the foliage had not turned, had it done it would have been spectacular, still a lovely trip and would do it again, fingers crossed for fall colour next time.

Scenery, Equipment collection, all great. Saved old stations really give you the feel of the "good old day" of rail.
