2 weeks before our climb date we reserved a parking space at the trailhead to Chimney Pond in advance. We DEFINITELY recommend doing this if you want to hike on a certain date, as many cars were turned away at the gate that morning, but we got to cruise right through. I wasn't prepared for how rocky the terrain would... More

This was a workout for me who doesn't exercise much. We met a couple who started in the state of Georgia hiking the Appalachian Trail. We had our three dogs with us and they enjoyed it! Beautiful surroundings.

This mountain is not kidding around. We didn't summit b/c of winds and 2" of ice but we got to the Chimney Pond. It's grandeur cannot be put into words. Oh, and less than 2 minutes into our hike we saw two moose. And then at the end of the day we saw 2 more. Thank you, Maine.

Don't miss this world-class attraction. Been there several times and hiked top to bottom. Always a treat for spring fishing, summer hikes and winter sports but my favorite time is in the fall when the leaves turn. The entire area is beautiful but early evening with the sun blazing on the autumn foliage is unmatched. As an added bonus, nearby... More

Mt. Katahdin is a fantastic Mountain to climb in a unspoiled wilderness somewhat close to civilization

A must for everyone to hike and you have to do the Knife's Edge. Just make sure you can pick a clear day.

It took us six hours to get up Hunt's Trail and then five hours to come down. We hated it while we were doing it but now we're so glad we did. But remember sunblock, a lightweight hat, and lots of water. You probably need water purification tabs because you'll run out. Our feet hurt coming back down -- sounds... More

AN amazing and thrilling hike/climb. Go up Saddle, over to baxter Peak, and then down Hamlin Ridge. There is bouldering but it is very manageable. On Hamlin you get to walk through blueberries(yum)! We started at 1030am and ended at 630pm. We spent two nights at Chimney Pond. The temp dropped really low on 9/20/12...be prepared. While at Chimney make time... More

We took Hunts Trail up to Baxter Peak. The 1st 2 miles arent bad at all. But, thats about the time you get above the tree line and the vertical climb up huge granite boulders begin. Its tough, real tough. Some of the boulders are over 20' tall. (Gloves here would have been a good idea.) After that strenuous climb... More
