This trail on Mansell Mt. in Southwest Harbor offers a good cardio workout. It starts in forest and graduates to beautiful stone steps and a small ladder. This is a beautiful trail with great views of Long Pond and surrounding mountains. There are something like 800 granite steps in this trail which was built close to 100 years ago. Moderately strenuous, lots of fun. My favorite descent is by the Razorback Trail, but you have lots of choices. Bring a map!

Lived up to its reputation. What a masterpiece. The views were amazing, the hike challenging but lots of fun. Can't wait to get back to do it again

Perpendicular Trial ascends Mt. Mansell counter clockwise from the parking area at the southern end of Long Pond. (If you travel south along Mansell Mountain trail you can make this a 2.4 mile loop, taking Cold Brook trail back to your car.) The 2 sides of the loop are very different--Perpendicular Trail is mostly granite stairs up the 949' mountain.... More

The Perpendicular Trail is just that - it goes straight up the side of a cliff with amazing views. You hkie along ledges until you think you can go no further - and then you find a wrought iron ladder imbedded ing the rock face and you are forced to climb to the next ledge. It is the most amazing... More
