The doll display was worth the price. We were not told when we paid that we could not go up to the second floor, which was all decorated and completed. Very disappointing! Would spend the money to see the dolls, but you won't see much of the house.

When you see the photos of what this place looked like in the early nineties, you'll be amazed at how much restoration has been done. They have made a tremendous amount of progress and keep working on it. There is where exterior shots of Cider House Rules was filmed, and that helped to contribute to the renovation. Another interesting historical...

We give this the highest rating because we love this sort of place, but admittedly it remains unfinished and will need a lot more money and work to reach completion. When we visited there was a doll museum in back, which was of note and might be of great interest to some, though we found it a bit creepy.
It's an interesting place, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Much of the house was destroyed by neglect and weather, and they have done a lot of nice restoration work. You can only tour the first floor; there are a lot of parts of the house that are inaccessible. You'll only want to spend about...

While the building itself is interesting, the exhibit of miniature figurines dressed in period fashion is incredible. The time, effort and creativity that has gone into the exhibit is mind-boggling. Our 15 and 9 year old daughters were both enthralled. Hopefully it will remain at Ventfort indefinitely.
One disappointment with our visit was that the second floor is closed due...

Great old Mansion, or cottage as they say, Massive restoration project going on. Our Guide was very informative. Good to see them saving this historic place.
I recommend visiting. There's more roaming freedom compared to the Newport Mansions. A lot of neat history in this place. It was saved with the help of money from filming 'The Cider House Rules'.
Interesting mansion with lots of great history. The place was almost destroyed by time and weather. Fortunately it is in the process of being restored your visit will help that happen.
The guided tour was very well done. Family history very interesting: moguls, geishas, rogues; plus antique dresses on doll collection; enormous great mansion with fantastic woodwork. A work in progress, but very well done.
What a great tour! A very knowledgeable tour guide provided great stories of the family. Sadly, not all the house was open, but what was seen was pointing towards a gem upon complete restoration. The dolls with the amazing dresses was not to be missed!
