A wonderful morning spent wandering through the history of Detroit. Nice exhibits including Kid Rock Music Lab (might have been my favorite), the streets of old Detroit, a short auto assembly line and an area about the underground railroad. Saw many school groups while we were there and they seemed to enjoy the museum as well. Don't miss the legends... More

A great place to come to now and then, because they swap out some exhibits every now and then. The assembly line is really cool, with a car body drop demonstration. The Kid Rock Music Lab is somewhat disappointing, it didn't have much history about Motown music. Admission is free for Wayne County residents, too. The gem of the museum... More

There's something for everybody at this museum. There's a room with a big model train layout and it has buttons you can push to animate the figures or make the circus train move. There's a Kid Rock music exhibit that has lots of Motown music memorabilia and a screen playing concert clips of Bob Seger and Kid Rock. There's a... More

My son was visiting Wayne State University and I decided to occupy my time by paying a visit to the Detroit Historical Museum. I was very pleasantly surprised by what I found. The exterior looked a little tired but it belied what was inside. The exhibits were modern and very informative and provided an enjoyable and relaxing experience. The exhibit... More

I grew up in Detroit and have always enjoyed the museum in a faded nostalgic kind of way. But now it's truly fantastic. We went with two teen exchange students who found it fascinating, especially after reading about Detroit and the U.S. in their American History class. I found the exhibits bright and interesting, especially the new ones on the... More

The Historical Museum has had a face lift and it is fantastic! What a wonderful way to soak in all the history of Motown and Motor City. You have to go!

The updated museum is definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in the history/culture of Detroit/MI/ or even the Great Lakes Area. There is a nice mixture of exhibits to cater to different interest levels. Additions like Kid Rock's "recording studio" were worth a look. If you take your time and read exhibits, you'll spend several hours at the DHM.... More

My husband and I were kind of unsure about going here, we aren't really history people, but he is really into cars and anything relating to cars. I'm glad we did. It's free, except parking, but you can park out front and not pay the $5. They have a variety of things. From a replica of the production line (which... More

I just went to see the Museum which just opened after an extensive renovation. They have done an outstanding job. I enjoyed all three levels but my favorite area was the rotunda area with all of the Detroit memorabilia.
