I have visited many times and enjoy each time and discover something new. Where else can you see, upclose, two locomotive engines in a boat, enjoy beautiful views of the Straits of Mackinac and Mackinac Island, learn about the winter lakes. Well worth the time.

It is truely a historical ship. The history and how ice breaking works is fascinating. The self guided tour is an absolute pleasure. The staff on board to explain engine room etc. are former Coast Guardsmen who served on her. Several very steep ladders (stairs) to climb. Not accesible for anyone with trouble going up steps.

Don't pass this experience up! Get to walk through most of the ship, watch some videos and ask questions.

We enjoyed our visit here learning about the Coast Guard and the ice breaking they do. The ship is well kept, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Kids really enjoy this!

Tried to visit the museum. Told the entire ship was closed due to a private party. Really, the entire ship? We were disappointed and couldn't return later due to a flight.

First, let me thank you for choosing to visit the ship. On the particular day mentioned in your review, we did open a few hours late to accomodate the morning retirement ceremony of a United States Coast Guardsman who served honorably for 22 years, a few of which were on the Mackinaw WAGB83. We support all service-members and appreciate their... More

We made a special trip to Mackinaw City just to see the Icebreaker Mackinaw. After her many years of service on the Great Lakes, it was a real thrill to walk through her and get a feel for how she worked and what her crew's experiences would have been. The details are well-presented and the staff is knowledgeable. Highly recommended!

The Mackinaw is a very enjoyable tour. Virtually all of the fixtures and furnishings are in tact and well presented. The ship is in excellent condition and well lit. We were able to tour most areas of the ship.

Learned about the process of how icebreakers work and their importance to the area. Since the ship was decommissioned relatively recently, you get a good idea what life is still like for those serving on icebreakers and working to open the shipping channels in the spring.

We took our grandchildren through the tour. It was very informative and well kept up. The price was reasonable.
