Oh my! The history of this place is enough to make anyone want to schedule a visit. But the location high on a "split rock" overlooking the vast expanse of Lake Superior is almost too much to comprehend.

The Split Rock Lighthouse is always beautiful, but never more so than when framed by snow and ice. Don't forget to work your way down to the shoreline and south of the lighthouse to look back towards it and the cliff. Great photo op!

The Split Rock lighthouse and site is very nice, instructive, very well preserved and well operated. The visitor's center is worth a visit and be sure to see the movie. Interesting history and well maintained outdoor museum.

We happened to be there on a day when they were giving free tours, it was nice to hear the history and see the light house up close. Food was REALLY expensive, though, so bring your own snacks.

This gorgeous area of the North Shore is steeped in history, and if you visit the lighthouse and the surrounding area, you will learn about how the lighthouse was built and the lives of the keepers and their families. In addition, enjoy incredible, panormic views of the cliffs and Lake Superior.

Very nice drive up the north shore in MN. to see a great lighthouse and a beautiful lake. The history and tour are well worth a visit when traveling up the shore.

We went for the memorial for the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. They toll the ship bell 29 times, once for each lost sailor and then light the light for a couple of hours.
